I've just ordered the HP Lovecraft-themed "Very Scary Solstice" songbook. I'm going to have a very hard time avoiding snickering during christmas carols this year. (It's beginning to look a lot like fish-men!)
Anyone want to go scary-caroling this year?

Why, yes...I do want to frighten my co-workers
May. 14th, 2008 | 02:42 pm
So, as a reward for a bunch of work, my office just gave me a little "feng-shui" fountain for my cube. I'm thinking it needs to be filled with blood, not water. Now, the only question is, what's a good blood-colored liquid recipe for a desk-fountain?

Falling off the wagon
May. 5th, 2008 | 08:53 am
mood: addicted...again
Okay, I admit it, I fell off the wagon this weekend: I re-activated my WoW account. (12 freakin' hours to download all the patches...jeez.) Predictably, my 7-person guild from 3 years ago is completely gone (which is a pity, I liked the name The Frogs of War).
So, since I'm basically starting over, I'll really start over: what server are people on these days?

Who owns this copyright?
Apr. 8th, 2008 | 09:47 am
Does anyone out there know who owns the copyright to this animated GIF?
I'd love to use it as the logo for a project I'm going to open source (it makes me laugh to use this for a security event tool). Thing is, unless I can find the owner of the copyright, I'm going to have to assume I don't have permission to distribute it. That would make me sad.

Today's episode sees our hero turned into a gibbering fanboy.....
Oh, man...I'm *still* humming Police songs. I got a short-notice chance to see The Police last night..it was expensive, but worth it. I was glad to see that they weren't just playing the songs straight from the records...they were changing them around, messing with things a bit.
Andy Summers looked a little startled to be there at times, and I'm almost certain they never turned on his mic....of course, he didn't look like he really wanted to be singing anyway, so that was probably fine with everyone involved. Stewart Copeland, though, kicks amazing amounts of ass for a 55-year-old. That dude is just fun to watch (and listen to...part of why I liked The Police was his drumming).
Yay.

I hereby declare today to be official "annoy your cow-orkers" day.
Achievements so far: coming up with several haiku for a "vision statement", giving a non-technical cow-orker far a 1-page dramatization of a regular expression, and explaining to another cow-orker collecting for the CFC that I couldn't show her how big my heart was 'cause I was still using it.
Go forth, my minions, and annoy!

Experiments in social engineering

I went to the Takoma Park Folk Festival today. Predictably, there were a number of causes there recruiting new folks. In past years, a couple of these would try to get my attention & talk to me about their cause (or at least one person would ask me if I was registered to vote in Maryland).
This year, no one tried to talk to me. I think the reason for that can be put down to my clothes. This year, I was wearing a shirt from DefCon that was black (of course), and had a skull & crossbones across the front, surrounded by a circle with spikes coming out of it. For some reason, that simple picture convinced every single organization & cause at the Folk Fest that I was someone they weren't interested in.
This amuses me.

bouncy
I just signed up to go hang gliding this weekend. I'm not sure if this is totally awesome or if I'm completely crazy. Honestly, probably a little of both. But, I've got that high-energy "this is going to rock" feel right now, which is promising.
I blame all of this on the friend of mine who suggested I go indoor skydiving...I would never have considered this if that experience hadn't been really fun. (Yay, double negatives.)

Le Sigh

So, someone at my office finally asked what the card outside my cube meant. (It's the "we can't stop here, this is bat country" lolcat). None of the three people who sit near me had ever heard of "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas", nor of Hunter S Tompson. My co-workers are all straights. Gah.

Here's a phrase I never thought I'd be typing:
I was at a fashion show at the Pakistani Embassy on Saturday.
It was surprisingly interesting.
